The 400 series is the latest addition to the ever successful Blackwire product line. Initially created to take advantage of the lucrative UC,(Unified Communications) market bridging between the consumer & business worlds. The Blackwire series of products is essentially over-the-head worn only. However, the 400 series introduces an alternative in-ear corded wearing style. Designed to function only at the office desk & appeal to the growing work force of millennials who detest outdated mic booms & call center headsets. The program initially kicked-off with the goal of re-using parts from the Voyager 400 series wireless neckband on the assumption this would save cost. Also, a comprehensive study was conducted with our acoustic engineers in china which led to the independent micboom becoming too large. This size was deemed unacceptable for both aesthetic purposes as well as HF. A program reset forced our engineering teams to re-think the acoustic architecture to better meet the program goals. Further development & testing led to pendant style micboom with a lightweight inline control attached to it. My involvement in this program was from concept to mid-development leading both engineering & HF efforts.
