KATANA wrist worn smart device
The 'Katana' program (meaning a long single edged Japanese Samurai sword) was intended to be an experimental concept product. Starting out as a means to test and explore the emerging smart wearables market. Initial investigations proved the market was too saturated with established brands for a Plantronics branded product to be successful. Our insights presented opportunities to de-feature and focus instead on existing customer needs in the Enterprise space. The goal was not make profit but to test the waters of acceptance for a small production wrist worn smart device that would solve some security related problems for customers in the business and finance institutions. Drawing inspiration from the technological advancements made in the consumer category our development team became more knowledgable and new skills were gained. I was one 4 designers on the program as we initially tackled the brief. The concepts being presented are my own & part of a collective team effort.
