The Katana smart watch program began as a concept study operating like a full development program. It was resourced with all the technical skills needed. Initially as a means to test the exploding wearables market which proved too saturated for yet another ‘me too’ offering. Instead the team took the novel approach of de-featuring it to simply function as a building security access device replacing the infamous magnetic swipe card. Some useful features remained like the time and date keeper as well as min text messages. The product went as far as a semi working prototype before the program was prematurely cancelled. As part of a 5 person design team I managed my concept direction as well as a co-developed one through to early prototyping. The final direction was a culmination of several designs. I assisted in putting together a strategy to present to key stake holders and managing all visual and prototyping outputs.
